Near Marathon is Pigeon Key, a tiny island that was home to the workers who built Flagler's railroad. It can be reached by walking a little more than a mile across the Old Seven Mile Bridge.
In Key West, stroll in the still-present footsteps of legends who once called Key West home: John Audubon, Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Edison, Lou Gehrig, Harry Truman, and Tennessee Williams. Key West’s seafaring tradition lives on at the renovated Historic Seaport district, known locally as the Key West Bight. Dozens of shrimp boats once called this harbor home. These days, "the Bight" is a popular place to arrange a day on the water for divers, snorkelers, fishermen and eco-tourists. Others come just to stroll along the harbor walk or dine at one of the many restaurants.
