To both locals and celebrities alike, Florida Keys fishing is some of the best in the world with more than 225 species of game fish. Ernest Hemingway fished the waters of the Florida Straits between Cuba and Key West for giant blue marlin while Zane Grey applied his angling and writing skills to the inshore and backcountry of the Florida Keys, landing sailfish and giant tarpon. Charter boats and guides are available throughout The Florida Keys and Key West for deep sea fishing excursions to test angling skills against sailfish and marlin or backcountry exploration to hook tarpon and bonefish.
- The waters of Key Largo are teeming with some of the world's most sought after game fish. More than 10 percent of the IGFA saltwater line class and fly fishing world records have been set in the Florida Keys.
- Islamorada is known as the “Sport Fishing Capital of the World” where marinas dot nearly every corner.
- The Key West sport fishing fleet offers some 60 deep-sea charter boats, 15 flats-fishing skiffs and two large party fishing boats which provide a variety of angling for the entire family during half-or full-day trips.
- Tarpon fish are abundant near Marathon and the easiest large fish for novice anglers to catch. The Seven Mile and Bahia Honda bridges are the sites of the heaviest tarpon fishing action.
- Offshore fishing near Marathon is enhanced by the Marathon West Hump. Rising from depths of 1,100 feet to a peak of 480 feet, this underwater platform is a veritable dinner table in the Gulf Stream for game fish including blue and white marlin, Mako shark, blackfin tuna and amberjack.
